A set of tools for network engineering applications, including network discovery, troubleshooting and diagnostics tools.
Features: SolarWinds Engineers Toolset is a set of tools designed with the needs of a network engineer in mind. The tools come in four main varieties: network monitoring tools; network discovery tools; diagnostic tools; and Cisco tools. The network discovery tools includes: an IP Network browser to perform IP and SNMP based network discovery; a Network Sonar, to produce a detailed inventory on devices and generate reports; a MAC Address discovery module to scan subnets and construct tables IP addresses to MAC addresses, their DNS and also manufacturer information; a Subnet list utility to discover all subnets on the current network; an SNMP sweep utility to query IP addresses in range to locate all used and unused IP addresses; a DNS audit tool; PING and PING sweep (which PINGs each and every IP address on the network to check for connectivity); a Port Scanner; a Switch Port Mapper; DNS / WHOIS resolver; and an advanced subnet calculator. Monitoring tools include: Network Performance Monitor; bandwidth gauge; SNMP real-time graph; real-time interface monitor; Advanced CPU load monitor and CPU gauges; Watch It that monitors and alerts on the availability of critical network devices; syslog server; and a DHCP scope monitor. Diagnostic tools include: Enhanced PING and Proxy PING in addition to the PING utilities already mentioned as part of network discovery tools; DNS analyzer that helps to visualize the DNS hierarchy within the IP domain(s); traceroute; Spam blacklist; WAN killer, aimed at generating enough traffic to carry out stress tests on the WAN; Wake-On-LAN, to remotely power-on computers on the network; SNMP brute force attack and SNMP dictionary attack; SNMP MIB browser, MIB viewer; MIB walk which is a utility to discover and produce reports detailing which MIBs and OIDs are supported on each device; and SNMP Trap Receiver and Editor. Cisco tools include numerous utilities for managing NetFlow, Config, remotely as well as a Proxy PING, Router CPU load monitor, Router password decryption utility, and a TFTP server.
Overall: The tool should rightfully be called a Network Engineer’s Toolset because these are all valuable tools for the Network Engineer. Too expensive to be of use to the network enthusiast who has to rely instead on public domain, open source, or freeware tools.
